Bangalore V: Bannerghatta National Park

So we (Betty, Bryce, Scott & I) finally went to the Bannerghatta National Park here in Bangalore. It's a Safari-themed zoo with the animals roaming around in the bush. They also had shades and watering holes available if they decided they wanted to rest or drink some water. Funny I had to come to India from Africa via the US to visit a Safari.

I'm not exactly sure how to describe the bus ride except that it's the bumpiest ride I've ever had in my life! It was like off-roading on a vehicle with no shock absorbers. Actually, that's exactly what it was. I think we were all bruised at the end of our excursion round the park. It was fun though because we got to see the animals in their natural habitats. Well, semi-natural habitat. Took us a while to get on the buss too because we had to queue for almost 2 hours in the sweltering heat. Then some "area boys" jumped in front of us and tried to bump us out of the queue. I was about to start a fight (for real) but there was an older gentleman behind us and he said it was ok and we could just slip back into the queue in ahead of him. He was there with his son, daughter-in-law and 2 cute grandchildren. We had a lengthy conversation with. Turns out he was an Indian Navy retiree and he was in town visiting so they all decided to come to the park. He said his other son lives in Canada.

Anyways, back to the park. We saw some well-fed tigers and lions. The tigers were constantly pacing and looked like they were ready for a meal while the lions looked like they just had a big meal. I never really noticed before that big cats like sitting under or close to a tree. I guess they like keeping cool too. A bear actually came up to the bus and I could have reached out and touched him if the windows didn't have bars. For real. It didn't look scary, though. Are there any fur coats made from bear fur, I wonder? The bears at this park were very, very hirsute. After the Safari park, we went to what I think is Cubbon Park to watch the musical light fountain. To be continued….

Well it certainly looks like you had fun. And yes, it does take living in the US or Europe to appreciate safaris and beaches all those other wonderful things we have here which are only enjoyed by expats or tourists
